This past Sunday was Cowboy Sunday at Red Oak Grove. Horses and cowboys and cowgirls alike were welcomed to this outdoor worship service under the trees. The weather held out and we had a beautiful morning of worship with a meal following.
What made this a Cowboy Sunday worship service? We invited musicians to lead our service – musicians part of the national cowboy church group. They led with guitars and a steel guitar, and familiar songs like I’ll Fly Away and The Old Country Church.
One of our texts for this Sunday was from Ephesians, where the author speaks about the armor of God we are called to put on and clothe ourselves. Our children demonstrated – in a silly way – what this armor of peace and truth might look like, complete with a cowboy hat as a helmet and a winter vest as a breastplate.
After the service and a delicious meal served by the ROG church council, one particular visitor offered wagon rides to anyone who wished to hop on. It was the perfect end to a fun morning of worship and fellowship cowboy-style!
