Dear Siblings in Christ,
In 1 Corinthians 13 Paul writes, “ If I speak in the tongues of humans and of angels but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers and understand all mysteries and all knowledge and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions and if I hand over my body so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable; it keeps no record of wrongs; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” And in verse 13 Paul reminds us that “now faith, hope, and love remain, these three, and the greatest of these is love.”
February is the month where we most often think of the theme of love because of Valentine’s Day. When we think of love on Valentine’s Day, we naturally only think of those close to us. We share a gift or a meal with our significant other or maybe we give chocolate to friends. However it is celebrated, sometimes we forget to think on what love means to us in all of our relationships.
Jesus teaches his disciples that all commandments ultimately follow under loving God and loving others. Love is covered by kindness, patience, humbleness. Love is not boastful or irritable (most of the time). Love doesn’t keep track of who did what wrong. Love is found in all our hope and in all our rejoicing. Love is the very source of the goodness of God. Love is the very source of the goodness we share with everyone from those we love most dearly to the stranger. Love is the greatest of all things and it is what we need always more than anything else.
This February in the season of love, may you remember the source of love that we have in God and that love we share towards one another. May you know love each and every day.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
With God’s peace,
Pastor Leandra
